Van Nuys has more serious collisions than most of the Valley, and they happen on its grid of boulevards: Van Nuys Boulevard from Roscoe down to Ventura, Sepulveda Boulevard alongside the 405, and the crossings, east and west, at Roscoe, Sherman Way, Vanowen, Victory and Burbank. The intersections of Van Nuys and Sherman Way, Sepulveda and Victory, and Van Nuys and Victory are the ones that appear again and again. The 405 ramps at Roscoe, Sherman Way and Victory bring freeway speed onto surface streets.
Pedestrians are hit along Van Nuys Boulevard near the Orange Line station and the courthouse, where the boulevard is wide and the crossings are long. The industrial streets around Van Nuys Airport carry trucks that turn without seeing cyclists.

Where you will be taken
Valley Presbyterian Hospital on Vanowen Street is Van Nuys’s own emergency department. Serious trauma from Van Nuys goes to Northridge Hospital Medical Center on Roscoe Boulevard or to Providence Holy Cross in Mission Hills, both Level II trauma centers; Kaiser Permanente Panorama City is close for Kaiser members. Sherman Oaks Hospital, at the south end of Van Nuys Boulevard, takes burns and lesser injuries.
Which court hears the case
Van Nuys is where the Valley’s courthouse is: the Van Nuys Courthouse on Sylmar Avenue, east and west buildings, a block off Van Nuys Boulevard. Personal injury lawsuits in Los Angeles County are filed with the personal injury departments at the Spring Street Courthouse downtown, and a Van Nuys case that goes to trial is usually assigned back to Sylmar Avenue. Most claims settle with the insurer before either.
