US 101 crosses the county through the Conejo Valley and Thousand Oaks, down the Conejo Grade and across the Oxnard Plain to Ventura. The SR 118, the Ronald Reagan Freeway, runs from Ventura through Moorpark and Simi Valley and into Los Angeles County at the Santa Susana Pass. The SR 126 runs from Ventura through Santa Paula and Fillmore to the I-5, the SR 23 from Thousand Oaks through Moorpark to Fillmore, the SR 33 north to Ojai, and the SR 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, along the coast. The SR 34, SR 150 and SR 232 complete the network.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s 2023 rankings place Ventura County 25th of California’s 58 counties for victims killed and injured in traffic crashes (5,130), where 1 is the worst, and 6th for bicyclist victims (247). Cities are ranked only against cities of a similar size: among 62 such cities, Oxnard ranked worst on the overall composite ranking and recorded 1,312 victims killed and injured, and the city of Ventura ranked 2nd for speed related collisions (116).

Trauma centers and the court, in Ventura County
Trauma centers
Ventura County has two designated trauma centers, both Level II: Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center, 215 West Janss Road, Thousand Oaks, and Ventura County Medical Center, 300 Hillmont Avenue, Ventura (California Emergency Medical Services Authority list; Ventura County EMS Plan, 2024). There is no Level I trauma center in the county, and St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard is not a trauma center.
Which court hears the case
General civil cases in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura, are heard at the Hall of Justice, 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura. No rule sends a civil case to a courthouse by city: under Local Rule 2.03 the venue of each division is the whole county, small claims excepted, and under Local Rule 3.21 a civil case is assigned to one judge for all purposes. The Juvenile Justice Center in Oxnard and the East County Courthouse in Simi Valley do not hear general civil cases.
Hearings by video
The court allows remote appearances by Zoom in civil cases, under California Rules of Court, rule 3.672 and Code of Civil Procedure section 367.75. Registration closes at 3:00 pm on the court day before the hearing. Trials and evidentiary hearings are in person.
