The courts

Where is a Los Angeles County injury case heard?

Close to where it happened. Under the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Local Rule 2.3, as amended effective January 1, 2026, an unlimited personal injury case is filed in the judicial district where the incident arose, and it is heard there by one judge from start to finish. The court’s downtown Personal Injury Hub closed in April 2026, so a case is no longer sent to one central building.

The court divides the county into twelve districts (Rule 2.2): Central, East, North, North Central, North Valley, Northeast, Northwest, South, South Central, Southeast, Southwest and West. Their boundaries follow the court’s own maps, not city or neighbourhood names, so the rule directs filers to the court’s filing court locator, which gives the district for a zip code.

Aryan Aliakbarzadeh, Esq. takes cases from all twelve districts, from his office in Northridge.

Los Angeles County

What else matters in a Los Angeles County case

  1. Claims against Metro, a city or the county

If a Metro bus or train, a city or county vehicle, or a dangerous public road was involved, the first step is not a lawsuit but a written claim to the public entity, presented within six months of the incident (Government Code section 911.2). If the claim is rejected, a lawsuit generally has to follow within six months of the written notice of rejection (Government Code section 945.6). Metro accepts claims on its own form by mail or in person; it does not accept claims by email.

  2. Trauma care

Seriously injured people are taken to hospitals the Los Angeles County EMS Agency designates as trauma centers. The three nearest the Northridge office are Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge, a Level II trauma center with pediatric trauma care; Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Level II; and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, Level II (EMS Agency hospital directory, revised October 1, 2026).

  3. Collisions, 2023

The California Office of Traffic Safety counted 58,758 victims killed and injured in traffic crashes in Los Angeles County in 2023, 6,200 of them in crashes involving alcohol, and 12,319 speed related and 7,398 hit and run collisions that killed or injured someone. In the City of Los Angeles it counted 8,116 victims killed and injured, 1,432 of them pedestrians, and 2,549 hit and run collisions that killed or injured someone.

Questions

Questions from Los Angeles County

Can he take a case from anywhere in Los Angeles County?

Yes. Aryan Aliakbarzadeh, Esq. is licensed in California and takes injury cases from across Los Angeles County, from his office in Northridge. Your treatment and any court date happen near you.

Will my case be heard downtown?

Usually not. Under Local Rule 2.3, as amended effective January 1, 2026, an unlimited personal injury case is filed in the judicial district where the incident arose, and the downtown Personal Injury Hub closed in April 2026.

How do I find out which court district my case belongs in?

Use the Superior Court’s filing court locator with the zip code where the incident happened; Local Rule 2.3 points filers to it. District boundaries follow the court’s maps, not city names, so a city name alone does not settle it.

A Metro bus or a city vehicle hit me. Is anything different?

Yes. A claim against a public entity comes first: a written claim presented within six months (Government Code section 911.2), and a lawsuit only after it is rejected or ignored. Metro takes claims on its own form, by mail or in person, not by email.

Can I attend court hearings remotely?

Under California Rules of Court, rule 3.672 and Code of Civil Procedure section 367.75, courts should permit remote appearances where feasible, and a court may not require a party to appear remotely.
